Group Spaces and Reservations

The Research Commons on the first floor is the center for the Research Library's flexible, technology-enabled spaces in which students and faculty can utilize library resources, conduct research, and collaborate with one another. Features include:

Collaboration Pods

RC Pod R19The central space of the Research Commons features open "collaboration pods" for group research, including study groups, office hours, and small seminars. Designed for up to ten users, the twenty pods are equipped with large LCD monitors operated by laptops. Pods can be reserved online by UCLA students, faculty, and staff.

Group Study Rooms

RC Group Study Room G4Group study rooms on the first floor can be reserved online by UCLA students, faculty, and staff. The fifteen rooms accommodate groups of two to six people, and ten are equipped with wall-mounted, thirty-inch LCD screens operated by laptops.

Classrooms

  • Research Commons Classroom (room 11630F): This classroom is equipped with twenty-four moveable desks and wireless laptops, ceiling-mounted projector and screen, and multi-regional DVD player. It can be reserved online by instructors.
  • East Classroom (room 21536): This classroom contains an instructor workstation and sixteen desktop computers for students. A table-top projector is capable of projecting the display from any computer monitor in the room. Reservations can be arranged through one of the Research Library subject specialists.
  • West Classroom (room 23167): This room seats twenty-four as a classroom, and its tables and chairs can be configured for alternate uses. Reservations can be arranged through one of the Research Library subject specialists. Wireless laptops can also be reserved for use in the room.

Digital Hub and Digital Cultural Heritage Laboratory

RC HubUse of the Digital Hub and the Laboratory for Digital Cultural Heritage, the two alcoves on the north side of the research commons, can be arranged through the Center for Digital Humanities Computer Labs; email cdhlabs@humnet.ucla.edu.

Large Events

Multiple locations in the Research Libary, including the conference center, can be reserved for UCLA classes that would benefit from the unique technology they offer and for events that may be of interest to the UCLA community. For further information, contact the appropriate subject specialist or other Library staff sponsor as far in advance of the requested date as possible.
