The Schnauber collection includes more than 2,500 complete sets of orchestral parts for silent films.
The collection was donated to UCLA by the Film Music Society (formerly the Society for the Preservation of Film Music) in 1997. The Society had preserved and cataloged the collection after receiving it from Mr. and Mrs. George Schnauber of Omaha, Nebraska. The collection was assembled by George's father, Louis B. Schnauber, between 1910 and 1927 while he worked as Music Director in more than 25 Omaha theaters.
