  • National Diet Library Japanese Periodicals Index 雑誌記事索引: indexes to academic periodicals since 1948 in all subjects held by the library; mostly in Japanese, with some English journals published in Japan
  • CiNii: Citation Information by NII 論文情報ナビゲーター: indexes to journal articles, including the National Diet Library Journal Periodicals Index, with full-text for some fifteen hundred journals; part of GeNii
  • 占領期新聞雑誌情報データベース: indexes to magazine and newspaper articles published between 1945 and 1949 held in the Prange Collection at the University of Maryland, which originally belonged to the Civil Censorship Detachment, a unit within GHQ; created by the Institute of Twentieth-Century Media/Committee for the Preservation of Magazines Published during the Occupation
  • 明治・大正・昭和前期雑誌記事索引集成: author index to the print publication Meiji, Taishō, Shōwa zenki zasshi kiji sakuin shūsei (Kōseisha), which reproduces various periodical indexes originally published during the Meiji period (1868-1912) through 1948

  • Factiva: access, mostly to full text, to nearly nine thousand business and general news sources, including U.S. and international newspapers, magazines, and wire services; includes major Japanese newspapers Mainichi shinbun and Yomiuri shinbun and English newspapers on Japan Daily Yomiuri, Mainichi Daily News, and Japan Times; available to UCLA users only 
  • National Diet Library Guide to Japanese Newspapers テーマ別調べ方--新聞: comprehensive list of newspaper-related resources; helpful for locating titles and holdings in Japan
  • Mainichi Photo Bank 毎日フォトバンク: digital photographic archive that includes information on dates and places photos were taken, dates of publication, and other details; offered by Maichi Shinbunsha
  • Newspaper Article in Digital Version 戦前期新聞経済記事文庫: covers the late Meiji period to 1943, with a focus on business, economy, and industry; developed by Kobe University
  • 戦前日本在住朝鮮人関係新聞記事検索データベース: indexes to newspaper articles about Korean nationals living in Japan published in Japan and Korea during the prewar period; provided by Kyoto University
  • Press Net: information related to newspaper industry; provided by the Japan Newspaper Publishers and Editors Association
