WINTER FINALS
College Library is filled with students during Dead week (week 10)
and Finals week. During some hours of these weeks, the chairs on all
three floors can be filled.
The library hours are extended to be
open until 12midnight.

The Night Powell Reading Room, a
very popular place to study, is open until 2:00am.
Group Study rooms can be
reserved for groups of more than two people needing a space to get
together for studying.

POWELL MUSIC
Afternoon Concerts in the Rotunda
The Bulgarian Women's Chorus performed in the Powell Rotunda
on Wednesday, March 10 from 4-4:45pm in the 4th concert of our
series. This acapella women's chorus, comprised of members of the
Balkan Women's Choir from the
Department of
Ethnomusicology, sang songs from all regions of Bulgaria in a
gorgeous polyphonic style made famous in the U.S. by the touring
Bulgarian Women's Choir.

The performers are group leader, Laurel Isbister, Maria Cizmic,
Rhonda Hume, Nyxi Rehfeld, Angela Rodel, Kelly Salloum, Laura
Schweitzer and Llyswen Vaughan.

COLLEGE LIBRARY INSTRUCTION
East L.A. College Research Excursion
College Library Instruction
welcomed a group of Honors students from East Los Angeles College
for a one day visit on February 24 to learn and practice research
skills.

This one day workshop was organized by Stephanie Brasley, Outreach
Coordinator at College Library and Avril Cunningham, an Instruction
Intern at College Library from the Department of Information
Studies. Esther Grassian, Instruction Coordinator at College
Library, assisted in workshop activities.

Using a building block approach, the students completed
research based exercises to help them learn how to identify, locate,
evaluate and effectively use information.

Afternoon Concerts in the Rotunda
The UCLA
Gluck Fellows Woodwind Quintet performed on Wednesday,
February 10 from 4-4:45pm in the 3rd Afternoon Concert in the
Rotunda.
UCLA's top woodwind performers filled the Rotunda with diverse
music of the 20th century; from Nielsen to Ligeti to Dixieland.

Research Clinic appointments for UCLA students, staff and faculty
during Winter Quarter. These clinics will help students to learn how
to do research, particularly for specific class assignments.

Afternoon Concerts in the Rotunda
The second concert in this series was on Wednesday, January 13 from
4-4:45pm and featured Classical Arabic Music, a five piece
Arabic taht ensemble from the
Department of
Ethnomusicology.
The performers in the group are Ray Briggs, Miriam Gerberg,
Paulette Gershon, Kathleen Hood and David Martinelli from the Near
East Ensemble.

Thursday, March 4 at 7:30pm in the Gamelan Room, 1659 Schoenberg
Hall.
