Mondays @ One Concert

Afternoon Concert – 1pm
This “series within a series” was sponsored by students from the UCLA Department of Music. In a program focusing on 20 th century works, series organizers Christian Nova, baritone, and Kendra Wittreich, oboe, performed three of Ralph Vaughn Williams’ “Ten Blake Songs”; Ethan Lin, flute gave a lyrical rendition of the Lento-Meditativo movement from the Piazolla Tango-Etude No. 4; “Sunburst” by Andrew York and Stanley Myers’ “Cavatina” were played by classical guitarist Heday Mercury; and the Igaz Trio (Jeff Anderle, clarinet, Amy Gillick, bassoon and Ryan Zwahlen, oboe) performed a demanding sonatina by Hungarian composer Sándor Veress.

Afternoon Concert – 5:30pm
The UCLA award winning women’s a capella ensemble performed to an appreciative audience popular favorites including “Hotel California” by The Eagles, and “Hold On” by Wilson Phillips. They sounded great in the Powell Rotunda acoustics!

Romeo and Juliet Italian Renaissance Ball
This dance featured lively instruction by Emma Lewis Thomas, UCLA Professor of Dance History Emerita. A costumed performance of the more advanced Renaissance leaping dances was featured. |

The following three exhibits were done as projects for Honors Collegium 29 “The Critical Vision: A History of Art as Social Commentary” taught by Paul Von Blum.
The Artwork of Dome Village

Featured work produced by the homeless inhabitants of Dome Village , a Justiceville project located near downtown Los Angeles.

This exhibit focused on critical views by contemporary female artists on the body in a social context. The exhibit also explored healing, in particular from breast cancer. On exhibit were paintings, drawings, and sculptures by artists Beverly Naidus, Mariona Barkus, Margaret Lazzari, Lavialle Campbell, Zizi Raymond, Katie Carney, and photographs by Lauren Greenfield.
