Powell Music Evening Concert
Katharina Brand, Fortepiano and Clavichord
Friday, April 21
7:30-8:30pm |
|
|
Katharina Olivia Brand performed variation works and sonatas by Beethoven,
Haydn, C.P.E. Bach and Mozart on a replica of a 1797 Anton Walter fortepiano
and a replica of a mid-18th century clavichord. The compositions find their
true counterpart in these instruments: their sensitive sound production and
potential for clear articulation gave the audience the opportunity to gain
further insight into 18th-century musical thinking, especially the style of
these Viennese composers. |

Korean Music & Dance

Led by Ethnomusicology faculty member Don Kim, this ensemble presented the
stunning sound of a 50 member drum group performing traditional Samulnori and
new Korean drum music. |

This afternoon performance also featured traditional Korean
dances performed by virtuosic dance members of Kim's own professional ensemble

Various ensembles performed regional Korean music on the traditional
instruments. This outdoor performance was the grand finale for this year's
Powell Music series.
The series continues next year with more afternoon concerts from groups in the
UCLA Department of Ethnomusicology and the Gluck Fellows performance groups.
Evening concerts will feature performers from the Department of Musicology and
