Finding Articles in Nursing Using CINAHL Plus

CINAHL Plus, the Cumulative Index to Nursing & Allied Health Literature, provides indexing and abstracting for over 3,000 nursing and allied health journals and other publications dating back to 1937 and contains well over 1,000,000 records.

  1. For print/e-journal access, Start@Biomed:
    1. In the Address/Location box, type: http://www.library.ucla.edu/biomed and press Enter.
    2. Click the down arrow in the Quick Link to Resources menu and select CINAHL Plus (nursing).

  2. Type your search terms in the query box.

  3. Click Search.

  4. Optional: If you have too many results, you can modify your search using the Refine Search tab. Results can be limited by date range, or to a particular publication or author, journal subset, age range, or publication type. There is a check box that allows you to limit to only peer-reviewed items.

Viewing Records and Locating Items

  1. To see more information about an item, click on the hyperlinked title.

  2. To read or print an article, click UC-eLinks to display options. This is available both from the summary view and the detailed view of individual items.

    1. Click the Full text available from... link.

    2. If there is no Full text available from… link, click the See if UCLA owns this. Check the UCLA Library Catalog link.

    3. Click the ONLINE ACCESS link (if present) or note the specific UCLA library, call number, and volumes owned.

    4. If UC Los Angeles doesn’t own the journal, go back to the UC-eLinks window and click the For Interlibrary Loan or Document Delivery use Request link to initiate an interlibrary loan request if you are a current UCLA faculty, staff, or student.

    5. Follow the instructions and complete all boxes* unless “optional.”

*Note: Your library account number is ten digits: nine digits from the face of your BruinCard/UCLA Healthcare card and the tenth from the back of the card (usually near the right side).
