Items on Exhibit

Except as otherwise noted, exhibit material came from the John C. Liebeskind History of Pain Collection and other collections in the History & Special Collections Division, as well as the general collections of the Louise M. Darling Biomedical Library. Special thanks to the following people for items loaned from their personal collections:  Selma E. Calmes, Philip Lippe, John Reeves, and Barbara Rootenberg.

Financial Support

The Relief of Pain and Suffering exhibit was made possible through the generous support of the American Pain Society and the Barbara and Leon Rootenberg Endowment Fund.

UCLA History of Pain Project

The Project's goal is to promote and ensure the study of the history of pain research and pain therapy in the post-World War II era, in particular the origins, growth, and development of the international, interdisciplinary pain field. Its major intiatives to achieve this goal are the creation of the John C. Liebeskind History of Pain Collection at the Louise M. Darling Biomedical Library at UCLA and the active dissemination of information about the collection and the history of pain to appropriate audiences.
