Awards

The John C. Liebeskind History of Pain Collection Web site of the History & Special Collections Division, Biomedical Library has been recognized as a site of distinction and one worth visiting.

In February of 1999 it received the following award:

"The Internet Scout Project has selected your site--Relief of Pain and Suffering--for inclusion in the Scout Report (February 12, 1999), a weekly current awareness publication that highlights new and newly discovered Internet resources. We take care to cover only the most useful resources, considering the depth of content, the authority of the source, and how well the information is maintained and presented. More information on our selection criteria is available on our site."

In addition, the exhibit was chosen by the Links2Go site as a "Key Resource":

"The page titled 'John C. Liebeskind History of Pain Collection' was selected as a Links2Go 'Key Resource' in the Medical History topic. Each quarter, Links2Go samples millions of web pages to determine which pages are most heavily cited by web pages authors. The most popular pages are downloaded and automatically categorized by topic. At most 50 of the pages related to a topic are selected as 'Key Resources.' Out of 49 pages selected as Key Resources for the Medical History topic, Relief of Pain and Suffering exhibit ranked 27th. For topics like Music, where there are a large number of interested authors and related pages, it is harder to achieve selection as a Key Resource than for a special-interest topic, such as Quantum Physics."

This site is a collaborative effort between the Archivist, Russell Johnson, the Librarian, Katharine Donahue, and the Historian, Marcia Meldrum, PhD and Biomed's Web Master, David Yamamoto. This site is continually being supplemented and revised.
