Screening of Paywall: The Business of Scholarship

Tuesday, Oct 23, 2018 - 12:00pm to 1:30pm
Paywall: The Business of Scholarship

The documentary Paywall: The Business of Scholarship focuses on the need for open access to research and science, questions the rationale behind the $25.2 billion a year that flows into for-profit academic publishers, and examines the 35-40% profit margin associated with the leading academic publisher Elsevier, which in many years is greater than those of profitable tech companies such as Apple and Google.

The screening will be followed by a discussion moderated by scholarly communication librarians Marty Brennan and Jennifer Chan.

There will be free popcorn, and attendees are welcome to bring their lunch. Admission is free, and no reservations are required.
