Digital Futures at UC Press

Wednesday, Oct 8, 2014 - 4:00pm to 6:00pm

A Discussion with Alison Mudditt, Director of UC Press; David Schaberg, Dean of Humanities; and Todd Presner, Vice Chair, UC Press Editorial Committee

Last November, UC Press and UCHRI convened a UC-wide workshop on "The Future of Humanities Publishing in the Digital Age" to explore innovative strategies that proactively responded to the crisis in monograph publishing in both the Humanities and the Social Sciences. The two-day workshop led to a whitepaper (link below) with a series of recommendations for the Press. Among other things, UC Press is currently developing an open access monographs series as well as a model for open access journals and is preparing to publish a series of "born digital" projects next year. The purpose of this event is to learn about and discuss the various digital publishing initiatives already underway at UC Press and how they will impact research, teaching, tenure/promotion, and scholarly communication in the years to come. We hope that you will join us for a lively discussion, and we welcome your feedback on the initiatives below.
