The Research Commons is the center for the Research Library's flexible, technology-enabled spaces in which students and faculty can utilize library resources, conduct research, and collaborate with one another. Features include:
- collaboration pods with work surfaces configured around large-screen monitors (reservable)
- group study rooms (reservable)
- a classroom
- laptop lending service
- printer, copier, and scanner
- the Scholarly Innovation Lab and the Laboratory for Digital Cultural Heritage
The central space of the Research Commons features open "collaboration pods" for group research, including study groups, office hours, and small seminars. Designed for up to ten users, the twenty pods are equipped with large LCD monitors operated by laptops. Pods can be reserved online by UCLA students, faculty, and staff.
Group study rooms on the first floor can be reserved online by UCLA students, faculty, and staff. The fifteen rooms accommodate groups of two to six people, and ten are equipped with wall-mounted, thirty-inch LCD screens operated by laptops. More group study rooms on campus.
Use of the Scholarly Innovation Lab and the Laboratory for Digital Cultural Heritage, the two alcoves on the north side of the research commons, can be arranged through the Center for Digital Humanities Computer Labs; email email@example.com.
Multiple locations in the Research Commons (along with other rooms in the building, such as the Library Conference Center) can be reserved for UCLA classes that would benefit from the unique technology they offer and for events that may be of interest to the UCLA community. For further information, contact the appropriate subject librarian or other Library staff sponsor as far in advance of the requested date as possible.
Day-use lockers, available for checkout by UCLA Library card holders at the circulation desk on the first floor, are located in the Research Commons across from Laptop Lending. These lockers are intended for short-term daily use, and keys are due back an hour before the Research Library closes each day. Any items left overnight in day-use lockers will be removed and placed in the UCPD Lost and Found.
