The Reading Room on the first floor has tables with built-in power outlets and a number of lounge chairs around the perimeter. The area near the front of the room is more active than the quieter seats near the back. Sixteen desktop computers are available (UCLA logon ID required). A photocopier and a printer are located in an enclosed copy room near the entrance.
The Reading Room also houses the Research Library's non-circulating reference collection, approximately 28,000 general and specialized reference volumes supporting research in the social sciences and humanities. Materials include census and government documents, encyclopedias, dictionaries, almanacs, bibles, maps, biographies and biographical dictionaries, directories, bibliographies, and literary and newspaper indexes. Many reference materials are also available via the Library's online subscriptions.
Day-use lockers, available for checkout by UCLA Library card holders at the circulation desk on the first floor, are located in the copy room. These lockers are intended for short-term daily use, and keys are due back an hour before the Research Library closes each day. Any items left overnight in day-use lockers will be removed and placed in the UCPD Lost and Found.
