Administering LAUC Mini-Grants

LAUC Mini-Grant Awards often allow a librarian to hire assistants to help with the funded project.  If your grant involves hiring assistants, here are tips to keep in mind:

  • Contact Library Human Resources to discuss your needs FIRST - Pat Hawthorne, Araceli Bermudez, or Terry Leonard can provide advice and assistance.
  • Define the job you want done.  Write a job description.
  • Work with Library Human Resources to assign the appropriate classification, title code, and salary/hourly rate for the job.
  • Identify the type of hire - student employee, UC/UCLA employee, non-UC/UCLA individual, etc.
  • Make sure Library Business Services has set up the account for your mini-grant so that the individual can be paid.
  • Do NOT allow the individual to start work until Library Human Resources has completed processing the hire.
