Present:   Ellen Broidy, Laura Cadra, Janet Carter (Chair), Debe Costa, Miki Goral (Recorder), Kate Pecarovich, Ken Wade. Absent: Ruby Bell- Gam, Orchid Mazurkiewicz

• The meeting was called to order at 1:05pm.

• The minutes of the June 21, 2005 meeting were approved as corrected.

• Statewide LAUC committee appointments.   There was discussion of which names UCLA wanted to recommend that the LAUC President send forward for appointment to four statewide committees:   Systemwide Library and Scholarly Information Committee (SLASIAC), Heads of Technical Services (HOTS), Library Privacy Liaisons (LPL), Resource Sharing Committee (RSC). Janet will forward the recommendations.

• Vice-Chair reported that all peer review actions were completed.   There was discussion about the appointment process and search committee composition. These topics will be discussed further at future meetings.

• Committee on Appointments, Promotions, and Advancements (CAPA). Keri Botello is the Chair of CAPA for the first year. Miki Goral is the Vice-Chair/Chair-Elect. Five members are to be selected by the LAUC-LA Executive Board. There were ten librarians who submitted their names or were nominated to serve on the first CAPA at UCLA. Five were selected, two for one-year terms and three for two-year terms. This will allow for continuity of committee membership in the future. Keri will notify the appointees and those who were not will be asked submit their names again next year.

With the implementation of the CAPA model at UCLA, LAUC-LA will ask the library administration to re-articulate the need for units to be supportive of librarians’ participation in the process, knowing that it may require more time than in the past. Service on CAPA is considered University Service (Criterion 3) for purposes of peer review.

• The LAUC-LA transitional board meeting will be August 16, 2005, from 1:00-3:00pm in the West Electronic Classroom, YRL.

• The meeting was adjourned at 2:09pm.
