Finding Call Numbers for Journals
Using ORION2

  1. In the Address/Location box, type http://orion2.library.ucla.edu. Then press Enter.

  2. Search using the techniques illustrated.

  3. When you display an individual record, scroll down to see the call number and location.


Title Words

  1. Type the journal title in the search terms box. Words can be in any order. Words such as of, the, and may be omitted.

  2. Limit to Journals format. Note: Do not limit by date.

    Set limits (optional): Journals

  3. Click Search Title Words.

  4. If your search results in more than one journal title, click Expanded Results to view call numbers.

  5. Click on Detailed holdings, Recall, SRLF Request, ORION Express to check on availability of individual journal volumes and/or issues and to initiate the other services listed.

Single-Word Titles or Too Many Results

  1. If your search retrieves too many results, or if you are searching for journals with single-word titles, such as Cell, Nature, or Science, choose

  2. Type the journal title in the search terms box.

    Enter search terms: cell

  3. Limit to Journals format. Note: Do not limit by date.

    Set limits: Journals

  4. Click Search Title Words.

  5. Click on the titles link following the appropriate journal title(s) to view call numbers.

    Note: Use the Headings Results link to return to the list of possible titles.

  6. If your search results in more than one journal title, click Expanded Results to view call numbers.

  7. Click on Detailed holdings, Recall, SRLF Request, ORION Express to check on availability of individual journal volumes and/or issues and to initiate the other services listed.

Abbreviated Title

  1. To obtain the full name of the journal, use the CDL-licensed Periodicals Titles database.

  2. Click Title button.

  3. Type the abbreviation as follows:

  4. Click Submit Search button.

  5. Display your results to discover the full name of the journal.

  6. Click CDL Quit button to end your CDL session.

  7. Return to ORION2 and do a Title Words or Keywords search using the full name of the journal.

    Note: The holdings for UCLA journals are not up-to-date in the CDL-licensed Periodicals Titles database. For the most current information, you must consult ORION2.

Notes

  • You can focus your results by using the language, date, and format limits as needed.

  • Remember to click Quit and Close to end your current ORION2 session.

  • Use Biomedical Library Call Number Locations to find to the appropriate stack level in the library.
