Finding Call Numbers for Books by Title
Using the UC Melvyl Catalog
- In the Address/Location box, type http://melvyl.cdlib.org. Then press Enter.

- Select one of the Title search options from the pull-down menu.
- Type one or two words from the title of the book in the search box. For abbreviated titles, use the truncation symbol (*) as needed. Remember: You must have a minimum of three letters to truncate.

- Note: To search by author and title, select the Author/Title search option from the pull-down menu and type the author’s last name and one or two words from the title in the search box.

- Click

- Optional: You may also focus your search by selecting a specific library, format (books, journals, videorecordings, etc.), language, and/or year using the Optional Limits menus.

- Click Full Record for each title of interest.
- Click UC Los Angeles to see library location and call number.

- Click Circ status to find out if the item is available in the library or if it is checked out.
- Click Quit to end your current Melvyl Catalog session.
- Use the stack directory to go to the appropriate stack level in the library.
Note: If you do not find the volume on the shelf:
- Check the book trucks waiting to be reshelved on the appropriate floor.
- Check the UCLA Library Catalog to see if the volume is checked out or in a special location.
- Ask the staff at the circulation desk to check the sorting area.
- Check the book trucks waiting to be sorted on stack level 4.
- If you have checked for the volume on two separate days, place a search for the material using the online search form at http://www.library.ucla.edu/services/osform.html.
